HYDERABAD: In a relief to retired IAS officer SN Mohanty, the High Court on Wednesday quashed the charges framed against him by the CBI in the illegal investments case of YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy under the Prevention of Corruption Act (PC Act). The court made it clear that the CBI can proceed against him in the case for the charges framed under the Indian Penal code (IPC).

Justice M Satyanarayana Murthy was partly allowing the petition filed by Mohanty seeking quashing of the proceedings initiated against him by the CBI under the provisions of PC Act and IPC. His counsel contended that the CBI had been proceeding against the officer in the case despite denial of permission from the government for his prosecution. The judge pointed out that the government had not accorded sanction for prosecution of the petitioner under PC Act..
