ELURU: The CBI on Tuesday raided the residence of Forest Development Corporation of India General Manager Mutayala Ram Prasada Rao in Tanuku of West Godavari district and seized assets worth crores disproportionate to his known sources of income. The sleuths who arrived in 15 cars early in the morning also raided the houses of relatives of the IFS officer who works in West Meerut of Uttar Pradesh.

The officials from Visakhapatnam divided themselves into two groups and conducted simultaneous raids on Rao’s properties. During the checks, it was found that Rao’s properties were acquired by shell companies floated by him in Delhi and Mumbai.

Officials are understood to have seized documents relating to property worth crores of rupees and obtained survey numbers of lands from the local sub-registrar.The CBI, however, refused to reveal details of their findings despite repeated questions from mediapersons.

The probe agency is likely to continue searches for a few more days. Rao who secured a gold medal in Mining Engineering from Osmania University is a 1986-batch IFS officer. In 2013, he was posted as Chief Vigilance officer in NTPC. The main allegation against him is that he sought bribes to certify substandard coal as having high quality.
