Andhra Pradesh: Two workers crushed to death at Gangavaram port

Both victims were about 35 years of age and hailed from Sabbavaram mandal, while the injured workers are from Gajuwaka.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Two workers died while three others suffered injuries when iron beams fell on them, allegedly due to the negligence of a crane operator at the Gangavaram Port near Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.

Both victims were about 35 years of age and hailed from Sabbavaram mandal, while the injured workers are from Gajuwaka.

According to sources, a load of iron beams was being transferred to a ship when the mishap took place.

Police said that while loading the iron beams, the crane malfunctioned and the load crashed onto the workers. The incident took place at about 4.15 a.m.

The New Port police have registered a case under Section 304 A against the crane operator for negligence and other section of 338 and 337 of IPC.

Bodies have been shifted for a postmortem examination to King George Hospital (KGH) here. It

was also learnt that among the three injured, one has received severe injuries, while other two have received minor injuries.

Meanwhile families of the deceased are protesting against the negligence of the port and are demanding adequate compensation. an>
