Andhra Pradesh to encourage book reading among schoolkids

In order to develop the habit of book reading among children, the State libraries department would organise special summer camps, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said on Thursday.

VIJAYAWADA: In order to develop the habit of book reading among children, the State libraries department would organise special summer camps, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said on Thursday.
A press release on Thursday said the special camps would run from April 25 to June 7. “Book reading will not only increase the children’s knowledge but also develop positive characters in them. It is necessary to guide young kids and make them choose a right path and the book reading sessions will help to achieve it.” he added.

The public libraries department is going to organise these special camps across the State.
The book reading camps would take place from 8 am to 12 pm. As part of the book reading sessions, the Tagore Library in Vijayawada would also conduct ‘human library sessions’, and drawing and essay writing competitions during weekends.

The officials of the libraries department have decided to organise interaction programmes for school students like ‘A day at library’ and book reading sessions among others.The Tagore library is also gearing up to provide special classes in music, painting, theatre and the likes to develop skills among children.
