Centre not interested in Kadapa steel plant: Guntur MP Galla Jaydev

GUNTUR: Demanding immediate approval of Kadapa steel plant, Guntur MP Galla Jaydev has said the Centre is not interested to set up the plant, which is a violation of the AP Reorganisation Act.

Galla tabled details related to the project in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.  SAIL had questioned feasibility of the project in a report, he said, adding the Centre formed a task force in December, 2016 which was requested by CM Chandrababu Naidu.

The State government, as per recommendations by the task force, provided 10,000 acres of land, power and road/rail connectivity as incentives for the steel plaint, he added.

As per reports of MECON Limited, the project consultant of the steel plant, iron ore mines in the region has 110 million tonnes of reserves with more than 60 per cent ferrous content, which is sufficient to feed a three million tonne capacity plant for 35-40 years, he said.
