VISAKHAPATNAM: Maoists killed two tribals, branding them as ‘police informers’, in Veeravaram village of Chintapalli mandal in Vizag Agency late Wednesday night to allegedly avenge death of two of their members, while another tribal was severely beaten up, police said.

According to the police, the deceased were identified as farmers Pangi Satti Babu and Gammela Bhaskar Rao. The Maoists went to the houses of these villagers late Wednesday night, dragged them out and killed them. Before leaving, the Maoists left a letter  saying that the duo was killed to avenge the killing of two Maoists, Sharat and Ganapathi, in October 2014. Sharat was killed allegedly by the villagers for killing a villager, Sanjeeva Rao, according to the police.

“The other police informers too should admit their mistakes in public and lead a normal life. The police should take the responsibility of the killings by the Maoist,” the letter read.  Visakhapatnam (Rural) Superintendent of Police Babujee Attada said “A group of Maoists came to Veeravaram village and dragged the two villagers from their homes and beat them to death in front of their families.”

It may be mentioned here that Veeravaram village on Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) was once an area that teemed with Maoists where they held meetings. In 2014, a villager G Sanjeeva Rao asked the Maoists to stop their activities following which the villagers told them not to enter their village.
