Andhra Pradesh COVID-19 tally touches 3245, death toll 59

Four cases in the 'other states' category have a travel history to the Koyembedu wholesale market in Chennai.

VIJAYAWADA: COVID-19 count in Andhra Pradesh increased to 3,245 with 128 cases, including 74 in other States category, reported in the last 24 hours ending 9 am on Thursday. The toll increased to 59 with one more death reported in Kurnool. 

According to the media bulletin issued by the State Command Control Room (health) on Thursday morning, 9,858 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Among the 54 new cases reported in the State, four (Nellore - 2, Chittoor -1, and Guntur-1) were linked to Koyambedu wholesale market in Chennai.  

Meanwhile, 68 people, including 23 from the other States category, were discharged, taking the cumulative recoveries in the State to 2,125. The number of active cases in the State stands at 1,061. Andhra Pradesh continues to be number one among the States in the conduct of tests per million. On an average, 6,409 tests per million are being conducted in the State, while it is only 2,424 tests per million at the national level.

Tamil Nadu with 5,744 tests per million and Rajasthan with 4,491 tests per million continue to occupy the next two positions. As against the 4.71 per cent positivity rate at the national level, the positivity rate in AP is 0.95 per cent. The recovery rate of 65.49 per cent in AP is better than 42.75 per cent at the national level. The mortality rate in the State is 1.82 per cent as against 2.86 per cent at the national level.
