AMARAVATI: The South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) has been drenched in continuous heavy fall under the influence of a low-pressure area on Tuesday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast said the Low-Pressure system is likely to intensify into a depression by Wednesday morning and reach near north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts by October 17 early morning as a depression.
Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on Wednesday. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated places across the State. Squally winds with speed reaching 35-45 KMPH are likely at times across the State for the same period.
Kavali in the Nellore district recorded highest rainfall of 15 cm, followed by Addanki (Bapatla) with 14 cm, Kandukur (Nellore) with 12 cm, Yanam with 9 cm, and Atmakur (Nellore) with 8 cm, among others in coastal Andhra Pradesh region. From the Rayalaseema region, Kodur in YSR Kadapa district registered a rainfall of 10 cm, followed by Sullurpeta and Gudur (Tirupati) with 7 cm and 6 cm respectively, among others.
Taking stock of the situation in the command control room of APSDMA, Home and Disaster Management Minister Vangalapudi Anitha alerted the district administrations of the south coastal and Rayalaseema regions. Officials were directed to update the people on the weather situation through SMS and other media.
Command control rooms have been set up in the rain-affected districts. Fishermen were advised not to venture out into the sea given the rough condition of the sea.
Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, Dr K Padmavathi, informed that the medical and health department is on high alert given the adverse weather conditions. The department has implemented precautionary measures, ensuring preparedness across the affected areas.
