VIJAYAWADA: Asserting that the NDA government shows zero tolerance to rowdy elements, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said notorious criminals will be expelled from the State.
Taking stock of the law and order situation in the State on the second and final day of the Collectors’ Conference at the Secretariat on Thursday, Naidu said there should be no rowdies in Andhra Pradesh, directing police officials to go tough against such elements for the effective maintenance of law and order.
Besides suggesting police officials to identify and warn professional rowdies in their respective districts, he asked them to invoke the PD Act against anti-social elements if they fail to fall in line. “There is no other option except expelling rowdy elements from the State,” he affirmed.
He said the crime rate should come down, and the conviction rate should go up. Police officials should study the reason for increase in property cases in Kadapa, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Eluru districts in recent times. Though the crime rate came down by 5.5%, police officials should initiate steps to bring it down further. Police should not cause inconvenience to people with unnecessary challans, he averred.
Naidu took serious note of the elimination of people coming in the way of ganja trade, and the lady don episode in Nellore district.
CM happy with decline in Crimes against SCs & STs
Directing police to provide better self defence training to women, he said crimes against women should be curbed.
Welcoming the 22.5% decline in crimes against SCs and STs in the State, the Chief Minister instructed police to focus on financial frauds. Cyber crime police stations should be set up in all districts. Boats should be acquired for the security of coastal areas.
Deployment of drones for surveillance should be increased, besides connecting them to RTGS, he said.
Directing the Ministerial Committee to curb the false propaganda being spread through social media, Naidu said those resorting to character assassination through fake accounts should be punished severely.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan said maintenance of law and order is crucial to achieve 15% growth rate.
Mentioning that complaints were received over the involvement of political leaders in land disputes in industrial areas of Visakhapatnam and other districts of North Andhra, Pawan Kalyan said it should be curbed effectively. Intervening, the Chief Minister said Collectors and SPs should not tolerate the involvement of political leaders in land disputes in their respective districts.
Earlier, Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta said crimes in the State declined by 5.5% this year compared to previous year.
Making a PowerPoint presentation, the DGP said 1,10,111 criminal cases were registered from December 2023 to November 2024, and the number came down to 1,04,095 from December 2024 to November 2025.
He informed that SC and ST cases witnessed a 22.35% decline. He put the crime detection rate at 56% and recovery rate at 55%.
A dashboard with 10,000 CCTV cameras is being set up to monitor security in Vijayawada City, the DGP said.
