Severe heatwave to hit parts of Andhra Pradesh; temperatures cross 45°C

Authorities have advised residents to limit exposure to direct sunlight, wear protective clothing, and stay hydrated by consuming fluids such as water, lemon juice, buttermilk, and coconut water.

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has issued a warning of severe heatwave conditions across several mandals in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, urging residents to take necessary precautions.

According to APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain, severe heatwave conditions are expected to affect 14 mandals, particularly in Srikakulam and Parvathipuram Manyam districts. In addition, heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in 28 mandals spanning Vizianagaram, Manyam, Alluri, Polavaram, Kakinada, East Godavari, and Eluru districts.

Jain noted that northern coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema districts are likely to record particularly high temperatures. He emphasized the need for people to remain cautious amid extreme heat and humidity.

The warning comes a day after widespread high temperatures were recorded across the state. On Friday, as many as 207 mandals across 22 districts reported temperatures exceeding 41°C. Among the highest readings were 45.2°C in Salur (Manyam district), 43.7°C in Nandikonda (Kurnool), 43.6°C in Gospadu (Nandyal), and 43.5°C in Terannapalli (Anantapur).

Other notable temperatures included 43.4°C in Bobbili (Vizianagaram) and Yerraguntla (Kadapa), 43.3°C in Devarapalle (Anakapalli), and 43.1°C in Anumalapalli (Markapuram). Several locations, including Karapa (Kakinada) and Bestapalli (Tirupati), recorded highs of 42.9°C, while Gandiganumala (Palnadu) and Kommipadu (Nellore) saw temperatures of 42.8°C.

Authorities have advised residents to limit exposure to direct sunlight, wear protective clothing, and stay hydrated by consuming fluids such as water, lemon juice, buttermilk, and coconut water. Farmers have also been cautioned against taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms, citing safety risks.
