VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday sought details from the state government on the measures being taken to resolve the demands of striking junior doctors and ensure that emergency medical services are not disrupted.
A public interest litigation (PIL) challenging the ongoing strike by the Junior Doctors’ Association (JUDA) was filed by social activist Guduri Venkata Ravindra Kumar of Singarayakonda in Prakasam district. The petitioner sought directions to ensure uninterrupted services in emergency departments, ICUs, critical care units and operation theatres.
The PIL was taken up as an urgent lunch-motion petition by a division bench comprising Chief Justice Justice Lisa Gill and Justice Challa Gunaranjan. Counsel for the petitioner, Yaragorla Tagore Yadav, told the court that junior doctors were on strike demanding an increase in stipend.
