CHITTOOR: A shocking incident in Chittoor district has raised serious questions over the role of police personnel. Instead of maintaining law and order, two police personnel had allegedly colluded with a fake currency racket.
The incident came to light when a fake currency racket operating under the limits of Gangadhara Nellore police station was busted. The case has become a major topic of discussion as two police personnel were allegedly involved in it.
Selvam of Velkuru in Gangadhara Nellore mandal is said to be the key accused in the fake currency racket. He had allegedly struck a deal with two persons from Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu, promising to provide fake currency worth Rs 1 crore in exchange for Rs 10 lakh genuine cash.
As per the plan, the Tamil Nadu duo arrived at Battikandriga village on Friday evening with Rs 10 lakh cash. However, Selvam had no fake currency with him. When the cash was about to change hands, an ASI and an AR constable arrived at the spot.
Fearing arrest, the Tamil Nadu duo abandoned the cash and fled the scene. Investigation revealed that the police personnel who arrived at the spot were part of Selvam’s plan. After the Tamil Nadu duo escaped, Selvam allegedly shared the money with the two police personnel.
Police begin probe into fake currency racket
The trio is said to have believed that nobody else knew about the incident. However, the Tamil Nadu duo became suspicious after observing that Selvam did not panic when the police arrived at the spot.
The duo later approached the Gangadhara Nellore police station and informed officials about the entire episode.
Police then tracked Selvam’s mobile phone and conducted a search operation near Battikandriga. Selvam, along with the ASI and the AR constable, was apprehended in a mango grove. Police have taken Selvam, the Tamil Nadu duo, the ASI, and the AR constable into custody. Gangadhara Nellore police are now conducting a deeper investigation into the case. They are also probing possible links between police and fake currency gangs.
