NEW DELHI: The Noida police on Wednesday registered a case against 30 people who allegedly a day before vandalized the Ravana temple in Bisrakh village of Greater Noida, and destroyed the idol.
“The police have registered an FIR against the accused, further investigation is on. The situation is under control and we have deployed sufficient force near the area” Dharmendra Yadav Senior Suprintendant of Police Gautam Buddh Nagar told Express.
Ravana is said to have taken birth in Bisrakh village where he is still worshipped for his devotion to God Shiva.
The accused include saints including Mahant Narayan Giri head priest of Dudheswar Nath Temple of Ghaziabad.
"On the complaint of Temple priest we have registered a criminal case under section 147, 295, 504, 506 and 427 of IPC. Arrest is yet to be made" said Ashwani Kumar SHO Bisrakh police station.
According to the police, villagers held a panchyat today inside the temple premises and they have decided to set-up another idol of Ravana in the same temple very soon. Heavy police forces have been deployed in the village for temple security and avoid any untoward incident.
“It is an ancient temple where the statue of Ravana was placed and the villagers have decided to set-up this temple again. The villagers have decided to first place the idols of god and goddess in the temple with Hindu mythology on Thursday, after which the Ravana idol will be put up again, as the idol broken it would not be possible to put it up immediately” said Acharya Ashoka Nand Maharaj, a member of the temple's governing body.
According to eye witness a group of young men, flaunting saffron scarves on Tuesday after noon had entered the Radha Krishna temple and they had vandalised the idol of Ravana and one other deity after being informed that the temple committee has proposed to place a brass idol of Ravan in the temple. Some youth holding saffron flags reached inside the temple on bikes and cars and broke the statues of the deities.
