NEW DELHI: North Delhi Mayor Preety Agarwal today directed the municipal commissioner for facilitating councillors with funds to undertake development works in their respective wards.

The mayor gave the direction to commissioner P K Gupta during a meeting of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC). "She directed that each councillor be provided with Rs 25 lakh for development work in his/her respective wards," an official of the civic body said. The councillors are not able to take up civic and development-related work as statutory committees have not been formed, she said.

The mayor had yesterday alleged that the Delhi government was not allowing the corporation to function due to "party politics". "For smooth functioning of the 'deliberative wing' of corporations, it is essential to have statutory committees in place. In the absence of a Delhi government notification authenticating zone-wise details of wards, the NDMC is not in a position to proceed further," Agarwal had said
