NEW DELHI: Expressing shock over poor children being denied entry in rapid metro in Gurugram, Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi sought an urgent report in the matter and called for sensitisation of staff to prevent any such incident in future.

The minister's reaction was in response to a Facebook post a that highlighted that few poor children in age group 3-8 years were denied entry at Cyber City Metro Station of Rapid Metro despite having vaild tickets.

The minister took up the matter with Rajiv Banga, MD Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon Ltd and sought an immediate action-taken report.

The Facebook post said “just because they were dressed shabbily and sweating even though they were paying fares still guards denied their entery (sic)”.

In response to the incident, Gandhi said: “This attitude of discrimination towards poor citizens, when they were paying for the metro fares, was not acceptable, and desired that the staff may be suitably sensitised to ensure that such incidents are not repeated”.

Making it easier for citizen to voice their grievances and seek immediate redressal, the WCD Minister recently launched a hashtag,  #HelpMeWCD, where any woman or child facing harassment/ violence could directly report their cases by tweeting.
