IIT- Delhi student hangs self to death in hostel room

Gopal Maloo, a West Bengal native, had on Wednesday reportedly consumed sleeping pills but was admitted to Safdarjung hospital and later discharged.

NEW DELHI: An IIT Delhi student committed suicide by hanging himself from the   ceiling fan in his hostel room on Friday morning. 

According to the Delhi police, the victim has been identified as Gopal Maloo, a student of MSc Chemistry.

"A resident of Hoogli, West Bengal, Gopal hung himself from the ceiling fan in his hostel room today morning. He was living at the Nilgiri Hostel," said DCP South West Milind Dumbre. 

The deceased had on Wednesday reportedly consumed sleeping pills but was admitted in Safdarjung hospital and later discharged, he further added.

The reason behind the student's extreme step is yet to be ascertained as further investigation is still on.
