Army Major Amit Dwivedi’s wife Shailza Dwivedi's murder investigation has revealed that the crime was pre-planned. The accused, Nikhil Rai Handa had also tried to destroy the evidence by dismantling his white Honda City car in which he allegedly killed his colleague's wife.
“The presence of one or two knives in the Honda City car of the accused suggest that it was not a crime that was committed at the spur of the moment,” Madhup Tewari, joint commissioner of police (western range) told Hindustan Times.
The accused had allegedly slit the throat of Shailza in Delhi's Brar Square on Saturday. The investigation has also revealed that Handa dropped the deceased on a road to make it look like a road accident case in an attempt to divert the investigation.
According to another media report, the police recovered two phones belonging to the accused and found that he owned two separate accounts on a social networking site. One account had his real information while in the other account, he called himself a 'Delhi-based businessman'.
“Their (Shailza and Handa's) phone call records showed 3,300 phone calls and 1,500 text messages exchanged between the two since January, most of which were from Handa’s side,” a police officer told Hindustan Times.
The police have learnt that apart from Shailza, he was talking to three other Delhi-based women.
Reports suggest that he has tried every possible way to destroy the evidence. Handa had told the police that he burnt his blood-soaked clothes and threw it in the garbage, broke his SIM card into pieces, got his car washed at an automobile repair shop on his way to Meerut after the murder. Also, acting on Handa's lawyer's advise, he broke the victim Shailza's cellphone before dumping it near his home in Delhi's Saket.
However, he informed the police that he wanted to avoid being arrested by the Delhi police, hence he planned to surrender before army officials.
