NEW DELHI: Even after their second meeting with the ‘high-powered committee’ set up by the MHRD, the JNUSU and student councillors from different schools at Jawaharlal Nehru University on Friday said that there was “no clarification” on the ministry’s intent to consider their demands.

The three-member panel that was formed by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development on November 17, is expected to come up with ways to restore normal functioning in the university. It will submit its recommendations on Monday.

The panel, comprising the UGC secretary Rajnish Jain, AICTE chairman Anil Sahasrabudhe, and Former UGC Chairperson V S Chauhan, has met with the students twice so far but there has been no improvement in the situation.

Dissatisfied with Friday’s meeting, JNUSU announced that the protest against the administration would continue. “There was no clarification on whether they would accept our demands. Till the time, they don’t announce a complete roll back of the hostel draft manual, our strike will continue,” JNUSU President Aishe Ghosh reiterated.

She further said that the student community at the university would fight against any such “despotic decision” taken by the government at other educational institutions.

“Our fight won’t end even after our demands are met. We will always stand by the students of any university in the country,” she said.

The meeting that began at 4 pm at JNU administration block went on for two hours. The committee said that this was the final meeting with the students and the next step was the submission of recommendations.

Earlier this week, the committee met with Deans of all schools and representatives of JNU Teachers Association (JNUTA).
