Kerala train arson attack: NIA raids 10 locations in Shaheen Bagh

On 2nd April, 2023, the D1 coach of Alleppey Kannur Executive Express was set on fire in Kerala by Shahrukh Saifi from Shaheen Bagh. The incident led to the death of three people.

NEW DELHI:  The NIA on Thursday conducted searches at 10 locations in and around the Shaheen Bagh area of Delhi, in connection with the Kozhikode train arson case in which three passengers were killed and nine injured.

NIA’s searches covered the properties of accused Shahrukh Saifi, and various suspects.  A resident of Shaheen Bagh, Shahrukh was arrested on April 6, 2023 for the arson committed four days earlier, on 2nd April.  He was charged with setting on fire D1 coach of Alleppey Kannur Executive Express, leading to the tragic death of a child and two others.

The original FIR was registered in the case at Kozhikode Railway Police Station on April 17, this year, before NIA took over the investigations. Investigations by NIA far have revealed that Shahrukh Saifi was a follower of various radical Islamic preachers, including Zakir Naik, Pakistan-based Tariq Jamil, Israr Ahamed and Taimoor Ahmed.
