BANGALORE: Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa has rejected Higher Education Minister Aravind Limbavali’s proposal to nominate former V-C of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University (Ajmer) Purushottam Lal Chaturvedi on the search committee to select the new V-C of Bangalore University.
Instead, the Chief Minister’s office has suggested the name of former Mangalore University V-C M I Savadatti as the government’s nominee on the search committee. Limbavali is yet to approve Savadatti’s name. Other members of the search committee are former V-C of Maulana Azad National Urdu University Sharmim Jairajpuri (BU Syndicate nominee) and Pondicherry University V-C JAK Tareen (UGC nominee). Nominee of the Chancellor is awaited.
The post of the BU V-C has been vacant since mid-August when H A Ranganath resigned to take over as NAAC director.
H T Rathod has been officiating as the V-C. His term ends on November 30.
Doctorate for Kalam, Roddam
Visvesvaraya Technological University will confer honorary doctorates on former president APJ Abdul Kalam and former director of National Aerospace Laboratories Roddam Narasimha at a special ceremony to be held on December 12 at Raj Bhavan, Bangalore.
VTU had decided to confer doctorate on Kalam in its first convocation in 2002, before Kalam took over as President of India. Although Kalam was the chief guest during the VTU convocation in 2007, the university did not confer the doctorate as he was the P r e s i d e n t . Ro d d a m Narasimha will be conferred the honorary doctorate as he could not attend the ceremony earlier this year. Chancellor Rameshwar Thakur, Higher Education Minister Aravind Limbavali, VTU V-C H P Kincha and Registrar KVA Balaji will attend the event.
