MYSORE: Deputy Commissioner P Manivannan has instructed the Palace Board to take immediate steps to restore the sword in the statue of Chamaraja Wadiyar situated in front of the north gate of the Mysore Palace.

A story on the present condition of the royal statue built in Indo-Saracenic style was appeared in the Monday spotlight column of The New Indian Express on July 20. Sources said that Manivannan had asked deputy director of the Palace Board Awaradi to find out a permanent solution to restore the sword, which was removed by some miscreants ten years ago.

Acting on the directions, the Deputy Director has approached the Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts for providing their expertise to renovate the statue. Dean of CAVA Deshpande told Express that the Palace Board had approached them seeking help.

"As the statue was made of Rajasthan white marble, similar marble stone could be used to make another sword and attach it to statue," he suggested.
