BANGALORE: Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Tuesday praised Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy for guiding him through his political journey.

Speaking at a function organised by Karnataka Legislature Employees' Association, Yeddyurappa said his success in politics was largely due to Shankaramurthy's guidance and timely advice on critical matters.

"Not many are aware that Shankaramurthy and I used to go on long walks at night, on the banks of the Tungabhadra river in Shimoga, during which, he complimented me as well as scolded me for taking wrong steps that had the potential to hurt the cause of the organisation. His guidance has helped me become what I am today," he said.

Stating that Shankaramurthy had done justice to whatever post he held, the chief minister said the former was known to take decisions in the larger interest of the people.

"He has always been the consciencekeeper of the both the Bharatiya Jana Sangh as well as BJP. I am confident that he will be able to do justice to his present post," the CM said.

Speaking on the occasion, Shankaramurthy said the architect of Vidhana Soudha, Kengal Hanumanthaiah, wanted the majestic building to be the seat of legislature, instead of the seat of power. "I want all the legislators to ponder over this," he said.
