MYSORE: “It is a happy moment for me to inaugurate the new plus 80 feet level crest gates and offer Bagina to river Cauvery,” said Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda.

He was speaking after offering Bagina to the river Cauvery at the Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir, near here on Wednesday, where he said that the state government has given prominence to irrigation projects in the past three years. He added that his government would prioritise addressing the problems being faced by farmers and promote scientific and judicious utilisation of the river water. During his speech, he also assured of the modernisation of irrigation canals.

“The replacement of the now defunct crest gates at level 80 feet has showcased the government’s commitment to irrigation projects,” the CM averred. He said that the high water level in the reservoir and rivers is a good sign to farmers as cultivation activities are in full swing.

Referring to the plea for approval of irrigation projects, Gowda said that the projects will be completed on priority and equal importance will be given to development of all districts in      the state.
