BANGALORE: The state cabinet on Tuesday approved a pension scheme for Anganwadi workers and helpers after fixing their retirement age at 60 years.

As per the new scheme, Rs 50,000 gratuity will be given to all Anganwadi workers and helpers who will retire before March 31 this year. Apart from this, an Anganwadi worker will be given a monthly pension of Rs 500, while a helper will get Rs 300 as pension, said Higher Education Minister V S Acharya.

He said from the next financial year, Rs 150 will be deducted from every worker's salary and Rs 75 from a helper's salary as contribution towards the pension scheme.
