CHIKBALLAPUR: All state government officials have been directed not to apply for leave due to the severe drought situation in the state, said Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda. “If the government receives any complaint against officials about not attending to problems in the drought-hit taluks, action will be initiated against them without mercy,” he warned.

At the Karnataka Development Meeting at Zilla Panchayat Office in Chikballapur on Monday, the Chief Minister advised officials to be alert to identify and solve the problems of the people, particularly those living in remote villages. No officials should take leave and a direction has been given to all the Deputy Commissioners in this regard, he added.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister warned BESCOM authorities to work promptly to supply uninterrupted power to farmers. Farmers face more problems during summer as the crops dry up due to lack of water, and hence BESCOM authorities should attend to emergency work immediately, he added.

The Chief Minister collected information about the status of development work in the district and lauded the administration for its efforts. Union Minister Veerappa Moily, Social Welfare and District Minister A Narayananswamy and MLAs of Chikballapur were present at the meeting.
