BANGALORE: Three-month-old baby Afreen, who was allegedly abused and battered by her father for being born a girl, died at a hospital here on Wednesday after battling for life for almost a week.
The baby, who had suffered multiple injuries, died of cardiac arrest.
“She was bleeding and had convulsions in the morning, which later led to a cardiac arrest,” said Dr Somegowda, Resident Medical Superintendent of Vani Vilas Hospital, where Afreen was admitted on Sunday.
The baby was in a semicomatose state after her condition deteriorated on Wednesday following two convulsions on Tuesday. Afreen, who was on life support system, had hurried respiration of 30-40 per minute as against the normal 20-25 and also pathycardia (increased heart rate), Gowda explained. Meanwhile, following Afreen’s death, K G Halli police have registered a murder case against her father Umar Farooq, after recording his wife Reshma Bano’s statement. The police have filed a fresh FIR in connection with the case on Wednesday.
