BANGALORE:  The vacation bench of the Karnataka High Court issued notices to the state government, Lokayukta institution and Upalokayukta Justice M B Majage on a petition questioning the latter’s appointment.

The petitioner P Subramanya claimed that the appointment was made in contravention of rules and regulations.

The petition was filed based on the new guidelines formed by the HC while quashing the appointment of the second Upalokayukta, Justice Chandrashekaraiah, recently.

“Then chief minister B S Yeddyurappa had had failed to solicit the opinion of the High Court Chief Justice to suggest names for the post; the name thus suggested has to be tabled before the four members of the appointment committee. This process was not followed in Majage’s appointment,” he has stated in the petition.

The petitioner adds that then CJ P D Dinakaran had suggested two names, which the former CM had not forwarded to the committee.
