Information technology has come in handy in meeting the challenges of carrying huge sacks of files and documents from Bangalore to Belgaum for the winter session of the Karnataka Legislature.
“To hold the session, the entire government has to move but not necessarily all files and documents need to move,” said Principal Secretary to the Department of Social Welfare and Public Works Department E Venkataiah.
Stating that the main ministerial offices and secretariat headquarters in Bangalore would function as back offices during the session in Belgaum, he said they did not have to move truckloads of files. Large and Medium Scale Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani also said adoption of e-governance made things easier.
“The Suvarna Vidhana Soudha was designed and built as an IT-friendly office and in the coming days one can witness paperless legislature proceedings,” he added. Over 1,000 questions pertaining to different departments and issues have been received from over 250 legislators. and about 20 Bills are expected to be tabled and discussed in both the Houses of the legislature in the seven-day sitting.
“On the opening day, the question hour, which is the most challenging session in the legislature, was negotiated without any problem,” a senior secretariat officer said. However, CM Jagadish Shettar and his council of ministers have instructed their staff members and aides to see to it that files which need to be attended urgently should be brought to Belgaum.
“The CM has specifically directed his officials to send all the files in his office, waiting for his attention, to Belgaum,” one of the senior officers from the CM’s office told Express.
