Final farewell to Jacintha Saldanha

Family and friends of nurse Jacintha Saldanha, who committed suicide after taking a prank call to a London hospital treating Prince William’s pregnant wife Kate, gathered at Our Lady of Health Church at Shirva on Monday evening to bid her adieu.

Family and friends of nurse Jacintha Saldanha, who committed suicide after taking a prank call to a London hospital treating Prince William’s pregnant wife Kate, gathered at Our Lady of Health Church at Shirva on Monday evening to bid her adieu.

Jacintha, who hails from Mangalore, wished to be buried at her husband’ Benedict Barboza’s hometown Shirva and had mentioned that in one of the notes she left behind. Her body was brought to Barboza’s residence in Swarkala on Monday Morning.

Over 500 people visited the house to pay their last respects. Her body was kept in a coffin decorated with flowers, with her face left open for public viewing.

After the funeral, Jacintha’s husband, who ruled out the possibility of settling in India, said he along with son Junal and daughter Lisha would return to the UK. He said he would decide on legal action at an appropriate time.
