CHITRADURGA: The state government is committed to preparing students to face the challenges posed by the upgraded Pre-University College (PUC) syllabus planned to be introduced from the next academic year, said Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri on Thursday.

He told Express on the sidelines of the state-level Pratibha Karanji, that the Education Department has decided to hold a series of bridge courses for students of science stream from next year to acquaint them with the curriculum which will be similar to the Central syllabus. “I have faith that the children will win against all the odds and the government will provide full support to them,” he added.

Explaining the reason for the change, Kageri said: “Our students should keep pace with those in the main stream. When students from all across the country are moving ahead, it is very painful to see our children lagging behind. Hence the government accepted the new education policy.”

Admitting that there were shortcomings in the state Education Department, Kageri said: “We want to train our teachers during the holidays, conduct bridge courses for students and there is no dearth of funds for these activities.”

On the persisting problems of lecturers of Job Oriented Courses, the minister said: “Their employment confirmation process is going on. There may be minor hiccups which will be resolved shortly.”
