Govt taking over Nithya ashram?

With mounting pressure from people across the state to act against controversial self-styled godman Nithyananda, the Karnataka government is considering taking over his Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam Ashram near Bidadi on the outskirts of Bangalore.

This was stated by Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister S Suresh Kumar , who who added that the government may appoint an administrator.

“This is because of alleged objectionable activities taking place there,” he said in Dharwad.

He was reacting to a series of protests against the controversial godman after a  fracas between his disciples and activists in front of the ashram on Friday.

“Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda and Home Minister R Ashok would take a decision on taking over the Asrham,’’ the Minister said.

Meanwhile, Ramangaram district-in-charge Minister and Forest Minister C P Yogeshwar has sought a report on the incident from the district SP Anupam Agarwal and Deputy Commissioner V Srirama Reddy.
