Honour killing: Victim’s brother surrenders

MYSORE: A day after a woman was murdered, allegedly in a case of honour killing, the victim’s brother surrendered before the police on Wednesday night.

Mahadeva, the brother of Smruthi, the victim, surrendered before Vijayanagar police; during interrogation, he confessed to the crime along with his cousin Shivu.

However, police are still on the lookout for Shivu who is still at large.Mahadeva disclosed that they had killed Smruthi by strangulating her as she did not pay heed to his suggestion to keep away from her husband Sudeep, a Dalit. According to sources, Mahadeva and Smruthi were at loggerheads for three days before the murder took place.

On Monday late night, Mahadeva and Shiva attacked Smruthi and murdered her when she said that she cannot forget Sudeep, a police officer told Express.

An enraged Mahadeva is said to have told Smruthi: “We will not leave you alone if you want go against our wishes.”
