BELGAUM: Protesting against the government’s decision to rename Belgaum as ‘Belagavi,’ the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) took out a rally in Belgaum on Monday.

The rally, led by former Maharashtra minister and senior MES leader N D Patil, started at Bogarves Circle and passed through various streets before culminating in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

The agitators shouted slogans against the state government. Hundreds of pro-Maharashtrians participated in the rally. A memorandum was also submitted to the Deputy Commissioner.

Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti leaders including former MLA Manohar Kinekar, T K Patil, Deepak Dalvi, former deputy mayor Prakash Shirolkar and others were present.
