Abdul Kalam to attend RGUHS’ convocation

BANGALORE: From Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) in the state 49 candidates will be awarded gold medals at the 14th annual convocation which will be held on the  March 31 at  NIMHANS Convention Centre, Hosur road. Former President of India and eminent space scientist Dr APJ Abdul Kalam will be the chief guest along with Governor H R Bhardwaj and Minister for Medical Education S A Ramdas.

Around 19 candidates will be awarded PhD degrees and 26,051 candidates will be awarded degrees.  Around 80 gold medals will be awarded. “Vishwajeeth K Pai of AJ Institute of Medical Sciences Mangalore with Joshi Aum Bharat, AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Mangalore  bagged eight medals each,” said  Vice Chancellor of RGUHS Dr KS Sriprakash,. He added that  Pooja Prakash Prabhu of the JSS Medical College, Mysore bagged four gold medals.  Director of the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research Center in Bangalore Dr CN Manjunath and Rajyotsava Awardee Honnappa Fakirappa Naikar will be conferred honorary doctorate degree ‘Doctor of Sciences’ (Honoris Causa) at the convocation.

RGUHS will award 6,210 degrees in the faculty of medicine, 2,641 degrees in the dentistry faculty, 2,322 degrees in  ayurveda, unani naturopathy and yogic sciences, 450 in homeopathy, 4,039 in pharmacy and 10389 in nursing.
