Record 57% pass II PUC exams

BANGALORE:  After 10 years, the state has seen its best II PUC results. A total of 3,39,421 students of 5,95,197 have passed the examinations, resulting in a record pass percentage of 57.03, an improvement of 8.1 per cent from last year’s percentage of 48.93 per cent.

As expected, girls have beaten boys again, with an impressive pass percentage of 65.19 per cent. Besides this, the top ranks for Arts, Science and Commerce streams have been secured by girls.

The highest marks for Science is 593, secured by Deepa M, a student of MES Kishore Kendra, Bangalore. Commerce was topped by Raveena B Jain with 591 marks, who is a student of Jain PU College in VV Puram, Bangalore. Shashikala S Dafali, a student from SUSJ PU College in Kubihala, Kundgol taluk, Dharwad has topped Arts with 569 marks.

Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri announced the results here on Wednesday. The exalted Minister said, “We are extremely happy with this result, and I congratulate all the students who are at the centre of this achievement.”

Mangalore, which was placed second last year, has topped the state this year with a pass percentage of 85.70. This is followed by Udupi (85.32) and Kodagu (73.11). Districts of Bijapur, Gulbarga and Yadgir are placed at the bottom. Kageri said that he had informed officials and teachers to work towards bringing these regions out of the “low-score belt”. Meanwhile, Kageri has announced that in the next three years, the PU Department will set a target of achieving 70 per cent pass percentage for the II PUC results.
