A Kannada stone inscription, dating back to ninth century Rashtrakuta empire period, has been discovered in Byadgi takuk.
It was found in Halekumur village on Thursday.
Assistant professor Chamaraj Kammar, who is serving at First Grade Degree College here, found the inscription during his visit to the village on a study.
Kammar said this rare inscription was unearthed near Tumbi Kere (tank) in the village.
He told Express that the inscription states about Rashtrakuta rulers donating 200 acres to one Siddarevar Singh to construct a tank.
“This 6-foot high and 1.1- foot wide inscription carries 27 lines,” he added. Assistant professor H B Kenchelli accompanied Kammar.
