The district administration’s promise to facilitate employment for unemployed Malekudiyas and indigenous tribals in Mangalore KSRTC division has fallen flat.
At the first public meeting with Malekudiyas and forest dwellers in naxal-affected villages in Kolli, Beltangady taluk, Deputy Commissioner N S Channappa Gowda had promised to help them by facilitating employment in KSRTC.
Many youths, nursing dreams of securing a government job in Mangalore KSRTC division, where employment of locals is below 10 per cent, had submitted applications through the DC and SP.
Sources said that all 127 applications for the post of conductor and driver had been rejected at the central division.
In fact, more than 800 youth from Chikmagalur, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada (DK) districts had applied. Sources said that the eligibility criteria was so stringent that only 25 out of 800 applications were declared eligible for the post of conductor/driver. Did the aspirants from DK district, who have just cleared SSLC, fail in the physical test?
KSRTC Mangalore divisional controller M Mahesh told Express that applications without a training certificate from a Hassan-based institution had been rejected at the scrutiny level. It is expected that candidates are equipped with a training certificate from the institution.
Sources said eligibility criteria for youths from naxal-affected villages would have been relaxed.
