The All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana will be held in the third week of January next year in Bijapur.

Sangamesh Badwadagi, general secretary of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, which organises the Sahitya Sammelanas every year, told Express on Monday that a preliminary meeting with Deputy Commissioner Shivayogi Kalasad will be held in Bijapur on Tuesday. Bijapur District In-charge Minister Bellubbi and literary personalities from the district are expected to attend the meeting, he said.

Badawadagi said that the government has already released Rs1.25 crore for the Sammelana. The remaining amount of about Rs 4 crore would be released as soon as the date for the Sammelana is finalised, he said.

A reception committee under the chairmanship of Minister Bellubbi has already been formed and the committee is making arrangements for the mega event, he said. While all utsavs and other programmes were cancelled due to drought, CM Jagadish Shettar and Kannada and Culture Minister Govind Karjol have already cleared the Sammelana to be held as per the schedule.
