Express News Service

The much-awaited upgrading of the Mysore-Nanjangud Highway into four-lanes and expansion of National Highway (NH) connecting Kollegal-Kerala as well as Mysore-T Narsipur at a cost of `523 crore will be taken up in three months, said Union Minister of State for Transport Satyanarayana.

After inspecting the road here on Friday, he said the Centre has come out with a final notification to expand the Mysore-Nanjangud Road that connects Karnataka to Kerala and Tamil Nadu into four-lanes. However, the 18.8 km stretch of NH passing through sanctuaries will be widened to two-lanes.

Initiatives will be taken to see that there will be speed breakers in the forest to protect the wildlife from speeding vehicles.

He said that the Mysore-Nanjangud Road will be developed into four-lanes under Public Private Partnership from this year to 2026. Infrastructure Department of Karnataka government has clarified that they have no plans to expand the Mysore Airport as of now.

Satyanrayana said that the Mysore-T Narsipur Road will be widened from 5.5 meters to 10 meters and Uthamaballi-Chamrajnagar Road will be widened from seven to 10 meters. However, if the government takes up the Airport expansion work, the road work would be relocated to facilitate the expansion works, he said.

The work on constructing bridges across river Cauvery near T Narsipur will be completed by June and this would meet the demands of the people of the region, as they were earlier forced to ply on a narrow bridge earlier, he added.
