Waghela appointed Chief Justice

Justice D H Waghela of Gujarat High Court has been appointed as Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court.

After Justice Vikramjit Sen who became the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court in 2011, was appointed as a Su­p­reme Court judge after an apex court  collegium cleared his name for elevation on December 2012, the Chief Justice post was vacant for nearly two months and senior judge K Sreedhar Rao was the acting Chief Justice. Now, Justice D H Waghela will be the permanent Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court.

Justice Waghela will take over at a brief swearing-in ceremony which will held at the Raj Bhavan on Thursday March 7. Governor HR Bhardwaj will administrate the oath of office to Waghela.

Justice Waghela was born on August 11, 1954. He was enrolled as an advocate on November 28, 1975 with the bar council of Gujarat. He was elevated to the Bench of the Gujarat High Court as additional judge on September 17, 1999 and confirmed as the permanent judge on June 18, 2001.
