Trouble at Mangalore University

Express News Service

Two nominees shortlisted for the post of Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University have been accused of plagiarism and misuse of grants.

Following the alleged irregularities committed by the search committee in constituting the shortlist, Governor H R Bhardwaj on Friday said he had no details about it and would take a decision only after receiving the list from the Department of Higher Education.

“I cannot comment on it. The process of nomination and its recommendations is the job of the Higher Education Department,” he said.

When asked what he could do as Chancellor to stop professors with charges against them from entering the university, Bhardwaj said: “I cannot discuss it. Let the papers come and then I will take a decision.”

According to sources, the two professors with charges against them are from the University of Mysore. This apart, the search committee had finalised three names in the absence of the UGC nominee, who was unable to attend the meeting.

Before addressing the issue, Bhardwaj inaugurated Nethradhama, a super speciality eye hospital, in Chamarajapuram.
