MADIKERI / BANGALORE: A model-turned-actress claimed on Wednesday that Union Railway Minister D V Sadananda Gowda’s son Karthik had married and abandoned her.
While Mythriya Gowda, who has appeared in slick TV spots for Rexona soap and Navaratna Oil, was telling the media her story in Bangalore, Karthik was getting engaged to Rajasri near Kushalnagar in Kodagu district.
Rajasri, also known as Swathi, is the daughter of K Nanaiah, a businessman in Kushalnagar. Mythriya told Kannada TV channels she and Karthik were married on June 5. She filed a rape, kidnap and cheating complaint against him in the evening. Datty Sadananda Gowda, Karthik’s mother, denied the allegations and suspected a political conspiracy. Karthik said someone was trying to malign his father.
Sadananda Gowda did not comment, and left for Kochi after lunch. A crowd had gathered near the hotel after hearing of the news. M P Appachu Ranjan, Madikeri MLA, was among the guests at the engagement.
‘Mom Got Alarmed’
Mythriya, who has also acted in Kannada films such as Topiwala, said she had married Karthik in Mangalore at the house of an artist.
“He asked me to keep it a secret until he got permission from his parents,” she told Express. “He has now been brainwashed to marry someone else.”
She alleges the family rushed him into an engagement because she had met his mother Datty on August 11 and told her about the relationship. “He has not only ruined my life, but also the life of the girl he is engaged to,” she said. The actress holds no documentary proof of the marriage, but says she can produce witnesses. “I stopped talking to him even over the phone. I was meditating and trying to overcome my disappointment,” she said.
She said she had spoken to the media as she couldn’t bear to see him getting married to another girl.
Reports about Karthik’s clandestine wedding shocked Sadananda Gowda’s home town Puttur.
Gopalakrishna Herale, a long-time associate of the Gowda family, said, “I cannot believe this. Sadananda Gowda and his wife Datty have brought up their children with good family values. I feel somebody is trying to malign them.”
Police Station Action
Late in the evening, Mythriya went with her advocate to the R T Nagar police station in Bangalore and complained that Karthik had kidnapped, cheated and raped her.
Karthik has been booked for cheating and rape, and not kidnap, said Assistant Commissioner of Police Omkaraiah.
