Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the government has plans to develop a health city in Mysore during the next four years where quality treatment would be made available to the poor.

He was speaking after laying foundation stone for 350-bed Jayadeva Cardiovascular Hospital on PKTB Sanitarium Hospital premises on KRS Road.

He said the request for a Kidwai unit in Mysore will also be looked into and efforts will be made to ensure that all types of treatment would be available in Cheluvamba and KR Hospitals. He said a super speciality hospital was sanctioned for Mysore as it is required. “Many poor people apply for CM funds to foot their hospital expenses for major surgeries. In this backdrop, a super-speciality hospital will come in handy,” he added.

Half of the ills will be cured if a patient is treated with compassion, he opined.

Noting that poor people believe that their diseases would be cured if they go to hi-tech private hospitals, the CM said government doctors should work towards gaining the confidence of people. Jayadeva hospital has been able to achieve that and all should follow suit.

Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil said he is trying to put a system in place to select people with commitment and honesty for the post of directors to medical colleges and hospitals. He said the recruitment of doctors for six new super speciality hospitals will be held in a transparent manner with in-camera interviews.

Jayadeva Hospital Director Dr Manjunath called upon philanthropists to give donations to the hospital stating that a block will be named after highest donors. Local MLA Vasu announced a donation of `10 lakh on the occasion.

About the new hospital

Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research will be constructed at an estimated cost of `115 crore. The built-up area will be three lakh square feet. The construction which will begin in two months, is expected to be completed in two years.

The four-storeyed building will be constructed on the lines of Bangalore’s Jayadeva Hospital and is expected to be the second biggest in the state after the Bangalore facility.

The hospital will provide super specialty care with state-of-the-art facilities such as cathlabs, non-invasive laboratories, theatres and nuclear cardiology facilities.
