JD(S) leader and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy said the post-Godhra carnage in 2002 is a closed chapter. But he questioned Narendra Modi’s “tall claims” about the Gujarat development model.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Kumaraswamy said Modi should substantiate his claims because Gujarat is “far behind” in several human development indices and stood sixth on the list of developed states.

He said Modi has no locus standi to speak about corruption. Moreover, his party has inducted several tainted persons, including B S Yeddyurappa.

Kumaraswamy made it clear that the JD(S) will field candidates in all the 28 constituencies in the state, but concentrate on 16-17 seats. On the Chikballapur seat, he said, “if I contest there, the party will win with a huge margin. But still I am undecided. The party has a strong base”.  A decision in this regard will be taken on Wednesday, he added.

Training his guns on the Chief Minister, he said Siddaramaiah should make public why his party welcomed Krishnaiah Setty who is facing a CBI inquiry.

On his name in the list of corrupt politicians prepared by social activist S R Hiremath, the JD(S) leader said, he will urge him (Hiremath) to make public the charges against him.

‘Poll Will Decide CM's Fate’

Shikaripur: Once the Lok Sabha election results are announced, the Congress-led government in the state would collapse, said former deputy chief minister K S Eshwarappa on Tuesday. Addressing a party workers’ meet he said after the poll results the Congress will face internal bickering for leadership. The Modi wave and development works taken up during Yeddyurappa’s tenure will help the BJP win more seats in the state.
