The Green Bench constituted by the Supreme Court in Chennai will conduct further inquiry into the 400 KV high tension (HT) line on May 13, said Coorg Wildlife Society president Col(rtd) C P Muthanna.

He told Express that the first hearing was held on May 2 and a stay has been issued not to cut trees in coffee estates at Kodagu.

If the line passes through Kodagu, the pristine forests and coffee estates would get spoiled. Man-elephant conflict would worsen further and the Cauvery catchment area would be affected by water scarcity.

The court has been apprised about all these ill-effects, he added.

The Power Grid Corporation of India Limited’s plans to draw the 400 kv line from Yelawal in Mysore to Kasaragod in Kerala via Kodagu has drawn the ire of locals.
