India Has to Adapt to Climate Change: Saran

Express News Service

BENGALURU: Energy security is linked to water security, which is in turn related to food security, former diplomat Shyam Saran said at National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) on Tuesday.

He was delivering the K Subrahamanyam Memorial Lecture, as part of the 13th Annual NIAS-DST Training Programme on Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Science, Technology and Society with the core theme: Energy Security and Management. The event will be on till August 21.

The former diplomat said, “Climate change and energy security are two sides of the same coin. Greenhouse gases (GHGs) remain in the earth’s atmosphere. They will stay for years even if emissions stop immediately. We have to adapt to climate change and countries that contribute more to global warming have a greater responsibility.”
