MYSURU: Mysuru royal family scion Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar’s widow Pramoda Devi said the new heir, Yaduveer (in pic), will be renamed as ‘Yaduveera Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar.’
The adoption ceremony will take place on February 23 and it will be a private affair. However, he will be taken out in a procession on the palace premises where public will get to see the new scion.
His coronation will take place before Dasara, but the date is yet to be finalised.
The much awaited formal announcement was made on Thursday by Pramoda Devi at a press conference at Amba Vilas Palace.
She maintained that the decision had the support of all. “The choice and decision has my beloved husband Sri Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar’s approval and blessings as I feel he is with me in spirit. His sisters and their family members are here this morning and with me in this decision,” Pramoda said. Asked about Chaduranga Kantharaja Urs, who performed the last rites of Srikanadatta, she said he did not respond to the invite (to press conference).
Yaduveer Gopal Raj Urs, grand nephew of Srikantadatta Wadiyar, will be the 27th scion of the Mysuru royal family. The 23-year-old successor is the grandson of Srikantadatta’s eldest sister princess Gayathri Devi and son of Tripura Sundari Devi and Swarup Anand Gopal Raj Urs. Yaduveer comes from the same family (Bettada Kere) as Pramoda.
Yaduveer was born in Bengaluru on March 24, 1992, and studied at Vidya Niketan School up to 10th class and completed his 12th from Canadian International School, Bengaluru.
His father Swarup said Yaduveer is fond of music and plays veena and guitar. He is doing his graduation with English and economics from the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
