BENGALURU: The state government has identified about 5,000 acres along the Tumakuru-Belagavi stretch to implement the proposed Bengaluru-Mumbai Economic Corridor (BMEC), Ratna Prabha, Additional Chief Secretary to the Industries and Commerce Department, said here on Tuesday.
Once the proposal gets the final nod, Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Hubballi-Dharwad and Belagavi would be developed as world class cities, she told Express. “The proposal also allows for space to develop world class cities along the corridor,” she said. The Centre has agreed to extend all assistance to the project.
“The Union government would bear 50 per cent of the land acquisition cost. We may need about `3,000 crore towards meeting the cost of land acquisition,” she said.
The corridor would start from Tumakuru and pass through Chitradurga, Hubballi-Dharwad and Belagavi. She said, “The proposal was discussed in detail at a meeting convened by the Union Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion recently.” She said the government has sufficient land to execute the mega project. The ordinance amending the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, will simplify the process of acquiring land for industrial projects, she said.
“At present, no project in the state is facing any hurdle as far as land acquisition process is concerned,” she said and added that the land bank created by Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board will also help the process.
