Scare for Siddaramaiah in Freak Gun Incident

Express News Service

BENGALURU: After the helicopter smoke incident last week, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had another scare on Tuesday when bullets from his gunman’s pistol spilled onto the road while the latter was trying to control a crowd.

The incident happened when Siddaramaiah was walking towards his car after laying the foundation stone for a girls’ hostel on the premises of Hazrat Hameed Shah Complex in Cubbonpet here.

As Siddaramaiah moved towards his car, party workers and several onlookers gathered around him and the gunman tried to push them away. In the melee, his pistol fell on the ground.

In its impact, the magazine came off the pistol, spilling bullets all around. There were 30 bullets in the magazine, it is learnt. An internal inquiry has been ordered into the incident.

It may be noted that former minister C C Patil was injured when his gunman accidentally opened fire while trying to disperse a crowd in a village in Gadag district in March 2013.
