Development Board for Bhovis: Siddu

Express News Service

BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday announced that a development board would be set up for the welfare of the Bhovi community in the state.

Speaking at a programme organised to mark the 843rd birth anniversary of saint Shivayogi Siddarameshwara, the chief minister said the board has been a long-pending demand of the community. However, he did not announce a timeframe or the amount to be allocated for the purpose. Siddaramaiah also urged the Bhovis to give up their traditional occupation and take up mainstream careers and produce doctors and engineers.  He assured them the support from the government towards setting up hostels and colleges. MLA Arvind Limbavali said the previous BJP government had made a similar announcement, but it was not implemented.
